Further Lane Poole House by Robert Young Architects
Robert Young Architects is a studio featured on our site with designs for their contemporary residences such as the Mitchell Lane House in Bridgehampton, the Kettle Hole House in Wainscott as well as the Bluff House in Montauk. This time, we’ll be showcasing their work in Lane Paul’s extra home in East Hampton, New York that’s 250 square feet.
The goal of this Hamptons pool house was to create a variety of experiences within a relatively small collection of indoor and outdoor spaces, all within visual and audible range of each other. Navigating through the space reveals a collection of custom areas: a sitting area with a fireplace, overlapping partitions framing the sky, enclosed areas for storage and food preparation, a changing room and a bathroom. Elements of nature abound, from the cedar louvres to the bluestone floors to the natural zinc ceilings, which will fade over time. Lots of trees and foliage surrounding the structure gives the structure a feel, such that you can’t tell where the architecture ends and the landscape design begins. A chimney made of handmade Petersen bricks from Denmark rises, anchoring the space configuration with a gathering place.
