How many times have you bought beautiful white bed linens, only to find they got dirty and not quite white with time, washed them, moved on? We hope this article helped you maintain and care for your white bed linens with some expert tips from Linen Drawer.
Start with quality
100% Cotton 200 Thread Count Bed Sheets are the first level you are looking for. Buy from a trusted source – take a look at the fabric. It shouldn’t look “candy” when you hold it up to a light. Good fabric feels soft and has a crisp handle.
Wash with hot water
Do you wash dishes and pans with cold water? Well, that’s why we recommend hot water—body oils, sweat, and skin flakes are all a lot more difficult to remove in less than hot water. Most washing instructions recommend a minimum of 60°C, but 100% cotton does well in 90°C water.
Get to know your water
If you are in a remote area, the water may contain mineral deposits that are found naturally in the water. It affects the outcome of your wash, and knowing a little about the type of water — soft, brackish, iron-laden — will help determine the type and amount of detergent you use.
cleaner
Linen Drawer has developed a detergent that meets the need for deep cleaning without damaging the product. However, if you have a preference – please use enough (see recommendations on packaging) – and make sure they work at higher temperatures.
rinsing
Rinsing is a very important step in ensuring that your white bedding stays white. Detergent residue is not good for your bed linens, and affects the handle and comfort of your mattress. Make sure to rinse it in hot water and then in warm water. Don’t just cool the water.
The truth about fabric softener
Never use fabric softener!! Fabric softener contains silicone particles that coat fabric, making it less breathable and more likely to become fuzzy over time.
Stains are a problem that needs to be addressed before the product is completely washed.

Bleach – it’s never an automatic solution.
Try all stain removal methods before resorting to bleach, as it is harmful to cotton fabric. If you need to use it, follow the directions on the bottle carefully and rinse well after bleaching. You really want to remove it because the residue only ruins your fine cotton bed linens.
drying
Whether you’re a fan of tumble-drying or tumble-drying, you need to make sure that your bed linens still contain some moisture before attempting to iron your bed linen.
Ironing
Carefully shaking and hanging the bed linen when line drying should result in the bedding drying easily without too many wrinkles. Machine drying is most effective, and remember not to air dry your bed linen before ironing. Iron with a hot iron and let the bed linen “cool” before carefully folding it.
I know it seems like a lot needs to be taken into account. However, the care you take by following the above steps will result in crisp white bed linens time after time. What’s nicer than slipping into clean, crisp sheets that smell like sunshine and care?
