Private Residence No. 3 by FLXBL Design Consultancy
FLXBL Design Consultancy designed Private Residence No. 3 – a contemporary residence designed through a series of volumes organized by vertical spines. This abode boasts 8,000 square feet of luxurious living space in the heart of Ahmedabad, India.
Private Residence No. 3 is designed as volumes organized around vertical spines. This block is laid out in a heavily landscaped edged garden which has been raised to give the feeling of being in a bowl of lush landscaping. The parking lot is connected to an enclosed entry court through which one enters the house. The temple and elevator are located on one side of the entrance lobby which continues as a circular spine ending at the vestibule leading to the bedrooms.
The living and dining area forms the vertical axis, visually connecting the front garden and the backyard. The warm wood cladding on the walls of this space contrasts with the stark whiteness of the surrounding spaces which are held together by the gray flooring used in the home. Double height living space windows look out to the front garden and sky. The material palette continues in the kitchen where warm wood under counter units contrast with stark white surfaces and a gray floor.
A staircase adjacent to the dining area connects to the first floor where the master bedroom, another bedroom and gym are organized around an entertainment area overlooking the double height living space below. A landscaped balcony running along the facade creates a shaded verandah below while modulating light into the double-height living room and gym. The facade of the house is articulated as a conversation between the solidity of concrete and the warmth of brick and wood which in turn manipulate the voids and openings in the cubic mass in a way that shields the interior from the harshness of the exterior spaces while allowing them to interact with the landscape outside.
